CDOT Offers Travelers New Tool to Avoid Delays by Searching for Road Work on their Routes

DENVER—If you're traveling on an interstate or a highway in Colorado, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) just made it a lot easier to find road closures on your route. On April 24, CDOT launched a new tool—The Construction/Maintenance Report—on COtrip.org, the department's official online travel-reporting system.
By visiting cotrip.org/constructionReport.htm, visitors can search for major traffic impacts, including current and upcoming closures and restrictions. To generate construction reports, users can filter search results by selecting start and end dates, the region and county of the state, U.S. and state highways, and interstates.
Once a report has been generated, viewers can see scheduled traffic impacts. If the work is part of a larger project, the report will provide email and phone contact information for the project, as well as a link to the project's website.
The new tool is the latest of many web resources travelers can access to plan trips across the state. Other features on COtrip include a real-time CDOT snowplow tracker, current conditions, speeds and estimated delays on CDOT-maintained roads, and a comprehensive map pinpointing construction, with access to CDOT's cameras. (Note: CDOT's cameras do not record.)
TRANSPORTATION MATTERS
Nearly all of CDOT's $1.2 billion budget is dedicated to maintaining the existing transportation system, which includes more than 23,000 lane miles of state highways, 3,450 state highway system bridges, more than 35 mountain passes that stay open year round, 20 tunnels, 278 regularly monitored/controlled avalanche paths and 750 rockfall sites.
