Fort Collins Joins Moving Towards Zero Deaths Initiative
The City of Fort Collins has joined CDOT’s initiative to reduce traffic fatalities in Colorado as part of the Moving Toward Zero Deaths initiative. Mayor Wade Troxell issued a proclamation on Dec. 20 in support of the state initiative, demonstrating the city’s commitment to the vision of zero traffic-related deaths.
Fort Collins is the first city in Colorado to adopt the Moving Toward Zero Deaths initiative, joining several other statewide partners in their pledge to focus on programs that help decrease fatalities, serious injuries and crashes. Within Fort Collins city limits, the number of serious injury/fatal crashes has decreased in each of the last three years, from 294 in 2012 to 240 in 2015. See a list of all the organizations that have adopted the initiative and received their partner certification.
The Moving Toward Zero Deaths initiative began in 2015 and set a bold and visionary goal of zero deaths for every individual, family and community using Colorado’s transportation network. Moving Toward Zero Deaths is a core value of the state’s new Strategic Highway Safety Plan, which provides innovative and data-driven approaches to improving highway safety.
