With spring just around the corner and more drivers hitting the road, CDOT remains more committed than ever to reducing the number of distracted drivers on the road.  In conjunction with April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month, CDOT has once again launched a safety effort to remind drivers to avoid falling prey to distractions, always keep both hands on the wheel and just focus on the road ahead.

In CDOT’s 2021 mail survey of Colorado drivers, the top three most common distracted driving offenses included cell phone use, other occupants, and general distractions within the vehicle. To curb these behaviors, CDOT is launching its Distractions Reactions creative campaign in the hopes of continuing to bring awareness to a critical public safety issue and assure drivers that they’re not as good at multitasking as they think.

Starting in mid-March, CDOT’s Distraction Reactions campaign will be on display at 48 coffee shops throughout the state with coffee cups sleeves warning about the dangers of distracted driving, while digital ads will remind drivers that other roadway users have noticed their distracted driving behavior and are alarmed by the consequences. The campaign asks drivers to consider: if you saw how others reacted to your distracted driving, would that change your behavior? The goal of this campaign is to focus on the social stigma of distracted driving and push drivers to reconsider their behavior behind the wheel.

CDOT encourages drivers to drop the distraction — no text is worth anyone’s life.
