CDOT Partners with the Colorado State Patrol and KBNO to Keep Kids Safe on Colorado Roads

Traffic Safety Pulse News

During National Child Passenger Safety Week (September 20-25, 2021), CDOT partnered with the Colorado State Patrol and local Spanish radio station, KBNO 1280-AM, to provide in-language safety information for Spanish-preferred residents of the Denver metro area.

Cpl. Ivan Alvarado (CSP) and Victoria Mendoza (CDOT Spanish spokesperson) were interviewed by Fernando Sergio, station news director and host of the popular segment La Voz del Pueblo, who urged parents and caregivers to protect their children by making sure they secure them in the correct car seat for their age, height, and weight. Cpl. Alvarado also addressed enforcement of CPS laws in Colorado and the fines associated with non-compliance.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Center for Disease Control report motor vehicle injuries are a leading cause of death among children in the United States. Many of these deaths can be prevented by always buckling children in age- and size-appropriate car seats and booster seats.

CDOT and Car Seats Colorado offer a series of downloadable brochures — in Spanish and English — that provide guidance on securing a child properly in a vehicle https://www.codot.gov/safety/carseats/safetytips/parents and an informative Spanish video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7DpmtEE0Zk
