The Heat Is On ramps up for summer enforcement periods

Traffic Safety Pulse News

894 impaired drivers arrested during spring enforcement

The Heat Is On campaign is preparing to combat impaired driving with a series of heightened summer DUI enforcement periods from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Law enforcement historically sees an increase in impaired driving crashes and fatalities during this period. CDOT, Colorado State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies will join forces throughout the summer, starting with the Memorial Day DUI enforcement period from May 28 to June 1, reminding Coloradans to celebrate responsibly over the holiday weekend.

Ninety-one participating law enforcement agencies arrested 232 impaired drivers during last year’s Memorial Day DUI enforcement. During the recent Spring DUI enforcement, 97 agencies arrested 894 impaired drivers. This is an increase from last year’s 468 arrests during the same enforcement period. The Colorado Springs Police Department (146 arrests), Denver Police Department (133 arrests) and the Fort Collins Police Department (70 arrests) recorded the highest number of arrests during the enforcement period. The Colorado State Patrol made 81 arrests. Results for all law enforcement agencies across the state can be found at https://www.codot.gov/safety/traffic-safety-reporting-portal.
