March Rural Enforcement Cites Unbuckled Drivers and Passengers

Last year in Colorado there were 211 unbelted deaths in passenger vehicle crashes — accounting for more than half of the 399 total passenger vehicle fatalities. According to CDOT’s 2017 Statewide Seat Belt Survey, the four counties with the lowest seat belt use in Colorado were all rural.

To encourage drivers in rural regions to buckle up, CDOT, Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and local law enforcement agencies conducted a Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement in rural counties from March 26 to April 1.

The March rural enforcement is the first of three Click It or Ticket enforcement periods this year. The statewide May mobilization enforcement runs May 21 through June 3. Last year, 5,505 citations were issued, including 217 drivers with improperly restrained children.
