Shift into Safe News

The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) and State Farm partnered to develop a new website, GenerationDistractionFree.org, to raise a generation of distraction-free, safe road users. The website contains detailed tips for families from newborns to teens, along with downloadable and printable resources. It will help parents and caregivers start the distraction conversation at an early age, and suggests that parents be a positive role model for them. Parents should not only refrain from using their cell phones while driving, but should also explain that driving takes concentration and skills, and to set rules about behaviors that are acceptable in the car. The website also explains how state Graduated Driver License (GDL) programs, which have helped reduce fatal novice driver crashes by as much as 50%, work by slowly phasing in driving responsibilities. Parents can search for their state’s law on the GHSA Teen and Novice Drivers webpage.
