Border War special enforcement
Traffic Safety Pulse News
On Nov. 3, a joint high visibility enforcement was conducted targeting impaired drivers attending the "Border War" football game between the University of Wyoming and Colorado State University (CSU). This enforcement effort began in 2015, involving northern Colorado law enforcement agencies (Colorado State Patrol, Larimer County Sheriff's Office and Fort Collins Police Department) and numerous Wyoming law enforcement agencies. The primary focus is on US 287, I-25 & I-80 in Wyoming.
The day before the game, Army ROTC students run the "boot trophy" from their schools to the state line to transfer the trophy to the game location. his year, CSU ROTC ran the trophy to the state line. This ceremony poses a traffic safety challenge at the state line, due to the large number of pedestrians along the highway. It takes a tremendous effort by CDOT & WYDOT, who provided following vehicles, VMS vehicles and cones to protect the runners.
