Summer may be winding down, but CDOT continues safety efforts with DUI enforcement, Decide to Ride partnership and interactive exhibit in RiNo
Traffic Safety Pulse News
Since Memorial Day, there have been 594 DUI arrests on Colorado roads during enforcement periods alone. With the upcoming Labor Day enforcement from Aug. 17 – Sept. 8 marking the last enforcement of the summer season, CDOT stands firm in urging motorists to act responsibly behind the wheel. So far, the agencies with the highest number of summer DUI arrests are the Colorado Springs Police Department (60), Denver Police Department (34) and Lakewood Police Department (23).
Earlier this month, motorcyclists revved their engines for the 82nd Sturgis Motorcycle Rally to Sturgis, South Dakota, while CDOT kicked off its Sturgis Rally enforcement from Aug. 4-15.
Preliminary data shows 25 arrests were made, a decrease from the same enforcement in 2020, which saw 399 arrests.
CDOT is partnering with MADD Colorado, Anheuser-Busch and Uber one more time to provide safe rides home during Labor Day weekend for its #DecideToRide campaign. To learn more about Decide to Ride, visit https://www.anheuser-busch.com/decide-to-ride/
In order to further encourage Coloradans to choose sober rides, CDOT will bring its message to the RiNo neighborhood around Labor Day weekend to remind First Friday Art Walk and Art RiNo Festival goers to get home safely. A pop-up interactive exhibit will be on display at each event to show the not-so-fun facts and process behind a DUI arrest. RiNo visitors can find the exhibit and interact with local law enforcement and CDOT personnel on Sept. 9 at the RiNo ArtPark.
