Study: Shift in consumer preference for SUVs, light trucks has led to greater rates of pedestrian deaths
Traffic Safety Pulse News
A new study has been released on the correlation between pedestrian deaths and large vehicles across the US. Larger vehicles may pose a risk to pedestrians, increasing the severity of collisions. This study uses data covering all fatal vehicle collisions in the US and between 2000 and 2019, and estimates that replacing the growth in Sport Utility Vehicles with cars would have averted 1,100 pedestrian deaths.
