Buckle Up! Click it or Ticket enforcement period begins this month
Traffic Safety Pulse News
Starting Saturday, July 31, the CDOT, Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and local law enforcement agencies throughout the state will begin the summer's second Click It of Ticket seat belt enforcement period. The period will run through Friday, Aug. 6.
In 2020, 203 unbuckled drivers and passengers were killed in crashes in the state, accounting for more than half of Colorado’s 365 total passenger vehicle deaths. The Click It or Ticket campaign encourages people to buckle up to avoid a citation but, more importantly, get home safely to their loved ones.
Colorado’s seat belt use is 4% lower than the national average of 90%. Each year, hundreds of unbuckled injuries and fatalities occur on Colorado roads. With an average 120,000 crashes each year, there is a 1 in 33 chance that you will be in a car crash. Despite our best intentions, we are all at risk when on the road. Seat belts reduce the risk of injury or death in a crash by 50%, — when all Coloradoans do their part, our roads are a safer place.
