US 6 & 20 Road Intersection Improvements
About the Project:
Widening and partial reconstruction of the intersection of US Highway 6 and 20 Road near Fruita. The existing intersection is offset, and the new intersection will realign the northbound approach of 20 Rd. to US 6 to align with the southbound approach. The intersection will be signalized with dedicated turn lanes. Other elements of the project include the reconstruction of a portion or River Rd. at the tie in to the intersection. The alignment and high speeds create difficulties for left-turning vehicles.
Project Benefits
- Realign 20 Road to remove the offset alignment and upgrade the railroad gates and signal at this location
- This intersection has historically had high motor vehicle crash data
- The project is a safety improvement with the addition of a signalized intersection and the roadway realignment
