I-25/US 50B Interchange
About the Project
The Colorado Department of Transportation in partnership with SEMA Construction began reconstruction efforts on the Interstate 25 and US Highway 50 intersection in December 2024. This project is located in Pueblo on I-25 (MP 99.7 to MP 101.4) and on US 50 (MP 315.9 to MP 316.6). During construction, crews will build:
- Five new bridge structures
- Retaining noise walls
- Roadway and ramp reconstruction
- Embankment
- Safety improvements
- Drainage and erosion control along the five miles of impacted roadway
Once complete, the interchange will be located just north of the current interchange and will operate as a diverging diamond interchange, which will improve drivability and provide safer driving conditions for motorists. The project is scheduled for completion in early summer 2027.

Project Benefits
The purpose and need for the I-25/US 50B Interchange project is to replace three structurally deficient and functionally obsolete bridge structures. The project is designed to improve safety, increase operational efficiency, and allow for a safer travel experience for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. This includes local residents, long-distance travelers, businesses and freight operators.
The I-25/US 50B Interchange project will:
- Construct five new bridges on US 50B that meet current engineering and safety standards:
- two bridges over I-25
- two bridges over the Union Pacific Railroad
- one bridge over Fountain Creek
- Construct a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), which will provide fewer conflict points and minimize T-bone-type crashes by eliminating the left-turn movements
- Expand the City of Pueblo’s trail system to include a new east-to-west pedestrian trail connecting to the Fountain Creek Trail
- Install a noise wall on the west side of I-25 to minimize freeway noise in the neighborhood to the west
- Construct collector and distributor roads from 29th Street
- Close the at-grade railroad crossing at 26th Street
- Construct two permanent water quality ponds
