US 50 - Monarch Pass Emergency Truck Ramp Repair

Project Complete!

The only existing eastbound emergency truck ramp on Monarch Pass will be closed while CDOT performs permanent repairs to mitigate sinkholes and replace a failed culvert. The new concrete culvert design will lower the risk of erosion as well as prolong the life of the emergency truck ramp. Guardrails and overhead signage will be upgraded to comply with current standards.


Commercial Vehicle Advisory:

  • Eastbound runaway truck ramp closed September - December 2022
    (for exact closure dates please see COtrip.org and choose the interactive map)
  • The runaway truck ramp is located on US Highway 50 at mile point 204.13 (approximately four miles east of the Monarch Pass summit)
  • Commercial truckers traveling eastbound are urged to use extreme caution

Work Schedule

  • From approximately 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (times dependent on weather)
  • Monday through Friday (and some weekends)

Traffic Impacts

  • The speed limit will be reduced to 25 mph through the work zone
  • Delays can be expected to accommodate periodic movement of equipment or materials
  • Intermittent brake and safety checks will be performed near the pass summit (mile point 199)
