US 385 Resurfacing North of Cheyenne Wells

This week, crews will continue embankment work for shoulder widening at two correction curves.

Motorists can expect

  • Alternating single lane closures will exist within a six-mile stretch of the project limits
  • The closures will be in place in both directions of US 385 between Mile Point 163 and MP 165 and MP 167 to MP 169
  • Flaggers will manage alternating traffic flows
  • Motorists can expect delays up to 15 minutes during alternating traffic holds
  • Speeds are reduced to 40 mph
  • A width restriction of 11 feet is in place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday.  This restriction was formerly from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Variable message boards will be placed in Burlington and Cheyenne Wells notifying commercial operators of the new restriction times.

Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.

About the Project:

This is a resurfacing and safety improvement project on a 16-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 385 north of Cheyenne Wells. Work includes adding up to six inches of new asphalt along the project corridor, repairing a bridge deck, performing full depth reclamation on over three miles of highway, and making other safety improvements.


Work Schedule:

  • Work is expected to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 6 with an anticipated completion date of late December.
  • Work will be performed during daylight hours (hours will vary)
  • All construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change

Traffic Impacts:

  • US 385 will be reduced to a single lane at various mile points within the project limits during construction

  • Alternating northbound/southbound traffic will be directed by flaggers

  • Motorists can expect delays of up to 15 minutes during alternating traffic holds

  • A width restriction of 11 feet will be in place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during work activities

  • Access to county roads and driveways will be maintained

  • Construction signs, cones and devices will be present 24/7 alerting motorists to the closures and restrictions

  • All construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change

  • Lane closures and other traffic notices are posted weekly on COTrip.org.
