What is the US 287 at Lamar Reliever Route Project?

The project will relocate U.S. 287 and U.S. 50 from downtown Lamar to a new alignment, known as the reliever route, approximately one mile east of Lamar. The new highway will serve as an alternate route around downtown Lamar for non-stop regional truck and automobile traffic. The reliever route will consist initially of a two-lane highway (interim phase) with three new interchanges and will be expanded to four lanes (ultimate phase) as traffic conditions warrant and construction funds allow. Click here for a map showing the proposed action.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), completed the study for the U.S. 287 at Lamar Reliever Route. Potential impacts from the proposed improvements were considered.  Public and agency comments received during the Environmental Assessment (EA) review period were also considered before a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was issued approving the project for implementation on November 10, 2014. The EA and FONSI can be reviewed electronically here.

Public and agency comments received on the EA are addressed in the signed FONSI.
