US 160 Roadway Improvements in Southwestern Colorado
About the Project:
Chip seal application will take place on US 160 at two locations. The first 20 mile segment will be between Mancos and Durango from Mile Point 61 to MP 81. The second segment will start in Bayfield and move west towards Pagosa Springs for approximately 16 miles, from MP 102 to MP 118.
Work will consist of chip sealing, asphalt patching, replacement of pavement markings, and sign replacement.
Project Benefits
- Chip seal is a cost-effective pavement preservation treatment used to build an effective moisture barrier protecting the underlying pavement against water intrusion by sealing the cracks.
- This work will extend the life of these heavily trafficked corridors and create a good skid resistant surface for the cooler months to come.
Work Schedule:
Late July through mid-August: Mancos to Durango
Mid-August through late September: Bayfield to Yellow Jacket Pass
Work hours: 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday
Traffic Impacts:
- Motorists can expect up to 20 minute delays
- Vehicles will be reduced to single-lane alternating traffic guided by pilot vehicles and flagging operations
- Speeds will be reduced to 40 mph through the work zone
- Traffic fines will be doubled in the work zone
- Motorists should slow down as they approach the work zone, drive with caution, allow extra space between vehicles and give themselves extra travel time
- Refer to COtrip.org for real-time travel conditions and road closures
