Southeastern CO Centerline Rumble Strip Installation
About the Project:
"The Colorado Department of Transportation and Surface Preparation Technologies (SPT) will be constructing centerline rumble strips along sections of seventeen highways in southeast and south-central Colorado.
The project will include centerline rumble strip installation and pavement markings in seven counties: El Paso, Fremont, Huerfano, Las Animas, Park, Pueblo, and Teller.
Approximately 200 miles of roadway will be improved with the installation of centerline rumble strips along segments of the following highways: Colorado Highways 9, 45, 47, 67, 78, 83, 94, 96, 105, 115 and 165; US Highways 24, 50, 85, 160 and 285; and Interstate 25.
Rumble strips are an effective measure for reducing roadway departure crashes. Grooves are cut into the pavement which cause a vibration and rumbling sound when the tires of a moving vehicle come in contact with the cut pavement. The noise and vibration produced by rumble strips alert drivers when they leave the travel lane. Centerline rumble strips reduce head-on collisions and cross-over crashes, while shoulder rumble strips reduce run-off-the-road crashes and warn drivers when they have drifted from their lane.
SPT is the contractor for this $1,847,077 project."
