Construction Activities & Impacts
Work for the week | August 30 to September 5
The speed limit on the project has been lowered to 65 mph. Please obey speed limit signs.
Lane closures for the week of August 30:
- Monday through Thursday: I-25 E. Frontage Road reduced to one lane daily between WCR 38 and WCR 40.
- Monday through Thursday: Westbound CO 60 right lane closures over I-25.
- Ongoing: Full closure of I-25 E. Frontage Road access to WCR 34.
CDOT is now issuing $75 fines for speeding in the I-25 North work zone between Mead and Berthoud. Civil penalties began April 2, 2026, following a 30-day grace period during which speeding drivers were given warning notices.
Since the start of the program, excessive speeding in the I-25 North work zone has decreased by more than 93%. The Colorado Speed Enforcement Program aims to reduce excessive speeding in vulnerable areas such as work zones and school zones. Excessive speeding is a frequent cause of traffic crashes and fatalities in Colorado. For more information about the program, please visit codot.gov/programs/speedenforcement.
Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be east- and westbound Colorado Highway 60 right lane closures over I-25 near Johnstown for median maintenance.
Project operations will cease at noon on Friday, Sept. 4, and resume Tuesday, Sept. 8 to help minimize potential traffic delays during the Labor Day weekend. The only exception would be for emergency operations.
Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the I-25 E. Frontage Road will be reduced to one lane between Weld County Road 38 and Weld County Road 40 to allow truck hauling access.
Approximately one mile of the southbound I-25 Express Lane, between mile points 251 and 250, from approximately Weld County Road 44 to WCR 46, is closed through late 2027.

The I-25 North Express Lanes from Berthoud to Fort Collins are actively tolling. The Safety and Toll Enforcement Program will go into effect May 7, following the 30-day warning period.
Sophisticated roadside technology is used to enforce traffic violations. To avoid unnecessary fines, remember the following Express Lane rules:
- Do not weave across the solid white lines (tickets for violations start at $75 each).
- Enter and exit the Express Lanes through the dashed lines only.
- Obey posted speed limits. The Express Lanes cannot be used to pass slower moving vehicles.
For future project updates and information, please check the Express Lanes website and COTrip.org.
