Traffic Impacts
Construction Activities & Impacts
Work for the week | August 9 to August 15
The speed limit on the project has been lowered to 65 mph. Please obey speed limit signs.
Lane closures for the week of August 2:
- Saturday: Northbound I-25 on- and off-ramp closures at WCR 34
- Ongoing: Full closure of I-25 E. Frontage Road access to WCR 34.
CDOT is now issuing $75 fines for speeding in the I-25 North work zone between Mead and Berthoud. Civil penalties began April 2, 2026, following a 30-day grace period during which speeding drivers were given warning notices.
Since the start of the program, excessive speeding in the I-25 North work zone has decreased by more than 93%. The Colorado Speed Enforcement Program aims to reduce excessive speeding in vulnerable areas such as work zones and school zones. Excessive speeding is a frequent cause of traffic crashes and fatalities in Colorado.
For more information about the program, please visit codot.gov/programs/speedenforcement.
There are no traffic impacts planned.
Saturday, Aug. 15, 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., the northbound I-25 off-ramp to Weld County 34 will be temporarily closed to allow crews to finish paving and striping a temporary ramp that will be used as the project builds a new permanent off-ramp for the improved interchange.
- Detour: Continue north on I-25 to Colorado Highway 56 (exit 250), turn around and travel south back to WCR 34 (exit 245.)
Saturday, Aug. 15, 9 a.m. to noon, the northbound I-25 on-ramp from WCR 34 will be temporarily closed to allow crews to locate utilities on the ramp.
- Detour: Travel south to Colorado Highway 66 (exit 243), turn around and enter northbound I-25.
Approximately one mile of the southbound I-25 Express Lane, between mile points 251 and 250, from approximately Weld County Road 44 to Weld County Road 46, is closed through late 2027.

The I-25 North Express Lanes from Berthoud to Fort Collins are actively tolling. The Safety and Toll Enforcement Program will go into effect May 7, following the 30-day warning period.
Sophisticated roadside technology is used to enforce traffic violations. To avoid unnecessary fines, remember the following Express Lane rules:
- Do not weave across the solid white lines (tickets for violations start at $75 each).
- Enter and exit the Express Lanes through the dashed lines only.
- Obey posted speed limits. The Express Lanes cannot be used to pass slower moving vehicles.
For future project updates and information, please check the Express Lanes website and COTrip.org.
