The speed limit on the project has been lowered to 65 mph. Please obey speed limit signs.

Lane closures for the week of July 12:

  • Friday, July 10 – Saturday, July 11: Overnight closure of northbound I-25 off-ramp at WCR 34.
  • Monday: Various overnight north- and southbound I-25 mobile lane closures between Berthoud and Fort Collins.

Colorado Speed Enforcement Program — Civil penalties active in the I-25 North work zone between Mead and Berthoud

CDOT is now issuing $75 fines for speeding in the I-25 North work zone between Mead and Berthoud. Civil penalties began April 2, 2026, following a 30-day grace period during which speeding drivers were given warning notices.

Since the start of the program, excessive speeding in the I-25 North work zone has decreased by 92%. The Colorado Speed Enforcement Program aims to reduce excessive speeding in vulnerable areas such as work zones and school zones, which is a frequent cause of traffic crashes and fatalities in Colorado.

For more information about the program, please visit codot.gov/programs/speedenforcement.

Mead to Berthoud

The northbound I-25 off-ramp at Weld County Road 34 will be closed on Friday, July 10, starting at 8 p.m. through Saturday, July 11, 7 p.m. to allow crews to install underground drainage pipes and perform asphalt work as construction continues.

  • Traffic intending to exit I-25 at WCR 34 will continue north to Colorado Highway 56 (exit 250), turn around and travel south to WCR 34 (exit 245).

There are no traffic impacts expected for Sunday, July 12 through Saturday, July 18.

I-25 E. Frontage Road Access Impacts:

The I-25 E. Frontage Road is temporarily closed to thru traffic between Weld County Road 32 and CO 56 to prepare for the I-25 northbound lane widening and the frontage roadway transition. Crews have reduced the asphalt roadway width on isolated sections of the frontage road. Viable detour routes and speed limit reductions will be posted. Please drive carefully through the work zones and reduced roadway sections. Motorists may use alternate north/south roadways such as Weld County Road 9.5, Weld County Road 7 and Colorado Boulevard.

CDOT changed I-25 E. Frontage Road thru access north of WCR 34, near Mead, in January. Closing frontage road access to WCR 34 is required for crews to extend the North Creek Box Culvert as part of the I-25 North Express Lanes Project. This access change is part of CDOT’s continued coordination with the Town of Mead and Weld County, who are building a 2-mile portion of High Plains Boulevard between WCR 32 and Weld County Road 36.

Once opened (projected summer 2026), traffic that previously used the frontage road will use High Plains Boulevard, and the frontage road use will transition to private property and utility access only. As shown on the map, local motorists will be able to access their properties between WCR 34 and WCR 36 but thru traffic will not be allowed. Similarly, local motorists will be able to access their properties between WCR 34 and WCR 32 but no thru traffic will be allowed.

Berthoud to Fort Collins

Monday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m, there will be various overnight north- and southbound mobile lane closures on I-25 between Berthoud and Fort Collins for pavement marking tests and road sweeping.

I-25 North Express Lanes: Tolling Active!

The I-25 North Express Lanes from Berthoud to Fort Collins are actively tolling. The Safety and Toll Enforcement Program will go into effect May 7, following the 30-day warning period.

Sophisticated roadside technology is used to enforce traffic violations. To avoid unnecessary fines, remember the following Express Lane rules:

  • Do not weave across the solid white lines (tickets for violations start at $75 each).
  • Enter and exit the Express Lanes through the dashed lines only.
  • Obey posted speed limits. The Express Lanes cannot be used to pass slower moving vehicles.
