Construction Activities & Impacts

Work for the week | May 31 to June 6

Lane closures for the week of May 31:

  • Sunday through Friday: Various north- and southbound I-25 lane closures between Berthoud and Fort Collins.
  • Ongoing: Full closure of I-25 E. Frontage Road access to WCR 34.
Colorado Speed Enforcement Program — Fines for speeding in the I-25 North work zone between Mead and Berthoud are now active

CDOT is now issuing $75 fines for speeding in the I-25 North work zone between Mead and Berthoud. Civil penalties are active as of April 2, following a 30-day grace period during which speeding drivers were given warning notices.

The Colorado Speed Enforcement Program targets excessive speed in vulnerable areas such as work and school zones, which is a frequent cause of traffic crashes and fatalities in Colorado.

For more information about the program, please visit codot.gov/programs/speedenforcement.

Mead to Berthoud

A temporary full closure of the I-25 E. Frontage Road, south of Weld County Road 32, is planned to start Monday, June 8, at 7 a.m. through Wednesday, July 8, at 5 p.m. Crews will reconstruct and repave both lanes of the Frontage Road. Access to nearby businesses will be maintained, and viable detour routes and speed limit reductions will be posted. Please drive carefully through the work zones.

Also, a temporary full closure of WCR 32 under I-25 is planned for Saturday, June 27, at 7 a.m. through Wednesday, July 8, at 5 p.m. to reconstruct and repave both lanes of the road under the bridge. Detours will be in place.

I-25 E. Frontage Road Access Impacts:

The I-25 E. Frontage Road is temporarily closed to thru traffic between WCR 32 and CO 56 to prepare for the I-25 northbound lane widening and the frontage roadway transition. Crews have demolished the WCR 32 bridge and will reduce the asphalt roadway width on isolated sections of the frontage road. Viable detour routes and speed limit reductions will be posted. Please drive carefully through the work zones and reduced roadway sections. Motorists may use alternate north/south roadways such as WCR 9.5, WCR 7 and Colorado Boulevard.

CDOT changed I-25 E. Frontage Road thru access north of Weld County Road 34, near Mead, in January. Closing frontage road access to WCR 34 is required for crews to extend the North Creek Box Culvert as part of the I-25 North Express Lanes Project. This access change is part of CDOT’s continued coordination with the Town of Mead and Weld County, who are building a 2-mile portion of High Plains Boulevard between WCR 32 and Weld County Road 36.

Once opened (projected summer 2026), traffic that previously used the frontage road will use High Plains Boulevard, and the frontage road use will transition to private property and utility access only. As shown on the map, local motorists will be able to access their properties between WCR 34 and WCR 36 but thru traffic will not be allowed. Similarly, local motorists will be able to access their properties between WCR 34 and WCR 32 but no thru traffic will be allowed. Local residences and businesses on WCR 32, between I-25 and WCR 9.5, will be able to be accessed from WCR 32 from the west only in the evenings and the frontage road from the south.

Berthoud to Fort Collins

Sunday through Friday, there will be various north- and southbound lane closures on I-25 between Berthoud and Fort Collins to allow crews to refresh lane striping.

I-25 North Express Lanes: Tolling Now Active!

The I-25 North Express Lanes from Berthoud to Fort Collins are now actively tolling. The Safety and Toll Enforcement Program will go into effect May 7, following the 30-day warning period.

Sophisticated roadside technology is used to enforce traffic violations. To avoid unnecessary fines, remember the following Express Lane rules:

  • Do not weave across the solid white lines (tickets for violations start at $75 each).
  • Enter and exit the Express Lanes through the dashed lines only.
  • Obey posted speed limits. The Express Lanes cannot be used to pass slower moving vehicles.
