I-70 Rural Bridge Rehabilitation

About the Project

Bridge preventative maintenance work will occur just east of Limon on a 33-mile stretch from Limon to Flagler (Mile Points 362 to 394.5).

The phases of the bridge preventative maintenance project will be:

  1. Structure G-23-AD on County Road 31 and structure G-23-AI on CR 43 from April to May
  2. Structure G-22-AX on CR 28 and structure G-23-AM on CR 36 from May to July
  3. Structure G-22-BD on eastbound I-70 and structure G-22-BE on westbound I-70 from July to September
  4. Structure G-24-Z on CR 3 and structure G-24-Q on CR 5 from September to November
  5. Structure G-23-AG on CR 39 and structure G-24-A on CR 48 from November to December

The work will include:

  • Removing the existing concrete deck topping or hot mix asphalt 
  • Receiving a polyester concrete overlay or waterproof membrane and hot mix asphalt overlay

Project Benefits

The preventative maintenance work will feature benefits including:

  • repairs to the existing bridge deck and expansion joints, improving the bridge's durability
  • new overlays, including Polyester and Asphalt, designed to increase the lifetime of the bridge decks

Work Schedule

  • Work will last approximately eight months
  • Daytime work hours are from Monday through Friday, 30 minutes after sunrise (approximately 7 a.m.) to 30 minutes before sunset (approximately 7 p.m.)

Traffic Impacts

  • Vehicles will be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction controlled by temporary traffic signals throughout the duration of the project
  • Lane closures will have minor delays
  • Speed limit will be reduced through the work zone. Speed Limit reduction may vary depending on the location of the structure
