I-70 Floyd Hill Monthly Update - January 2023
NEPA Update
The I-70 Floyd Hill to Veterans Memorial Tunnels Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was signed on January 12, 2023, which officially completes the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) phase of the project. The FONSI and other NEPA documentation are available on the Project Website. As the design evolves and progresses, CDOT will evaluate any changes in the environmental impacts and mitigation measures and conduct NEPA reevaluations as necessary.
Public Meeting: Tuesday, Mar. 7, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Construction on the main I-70 Floyd Hill to Veterans Memorial Tunnels project is planned to begin by early summer 2023. CDOT is hosting a public meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 7, 2023 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clear Creek High School (185 Beaver Brook Canyon Rd, Evergreen, CO 80439). Display boards of project materials will be exhibited and staffed, and CDOT will do a presentation at 6:30 p.m. Staff will be available to answer questions before and after the presentation.
Floyd Hill Early Project Updates
The I-70 Genesee Wildlife Crossing project will build a wildlife underpass under I-70 between the Lookout Mountain and Genesee exits. Additionally, crews will construct wildlife fencing along both eastbound and westbound I-70 that extends from Genesee (Exit 254) to Lookout Mountain (Exit 256). Crews recently added pavement to westbound I-70 which traffic will soon shift onto while a new wildlife crossing is built in the area. Once traffic is shifted, crews will be able to complete the majority of construction on the wildlife underpass without impact to motorists.
The US 40 & Floyd Hill Roundabouts project will build two single-lane roundabouts at the intersections of US 40 and Homestead Road, and US 40 and County Road 65. Crews are currently relocating power poles and gas lines, and motorists can anticipate daytime single lane closures and flagging, Mondays through Fridays, on US 40 between Homestead Road and CR 65. In March, storm sewer installation is anticipated to begin, which will cause traffic impacts to Homestead Road. Crews will also perform emergency erosion repair between US 40 and I-70 - there will not be traffic impacts to the interstate for this work.
