Project Update
Project Design Progress
The Floyd Hill Project team has completed a review of major refinements to the I-70 Alignment identified in the Preferred (Canyon Viaduct) Alternative from the 2021 Environmental Assessment (EA).
- Design innovations have been developed through the CMGC process.
- After an exhaustive review over the past six months, the CSS teams (Project Leadership Team, Technical Team, and Issue Task Forces) have recommended refinements to the Project design that reduce impacts and improve constructability.
- A summary of the refinements, including updated computer models of the design, will be posted to the Project website at a later date.
- Details about the changes will be formally documented in the NEPA decision document, expected at the end of the year.
Funding Update:
The Floyd Hill Project is currently fully funded to $700 million with the recent CDOT Transportation Commission approval of the 10-Year Plan.
Construction of the Floyd Hill Project is expected to take place in three major packages.
Package 1: East Section
Location: County Road 65 to the bottom of Floyd Hill
Current Level of Design: 60%
Expected Construction Start Date: Late Spring\Summer 2023
Package 2: West Section
Location: Hidden Valley Interchange to Idaho Springs Exit 241
Current Level of Design: 30%
Expected Construction Start Date: Fall 2023
Package 3: Central Section
Location: Bottom of Floyd Hill to Hidden Valley\ Central City Parkway
Current Level of Design: 20%
Expected Construction Start Date: Early 2024
Early Projects update
Genesee Wildlife Crossing
Bids were opened on September 15th 2022. Lawrence Construction has been awarded the Construction Contract. Construction is expected to start in Late October 2022.

Project Cost: $9.9M

US 40 Roundabouts at County Road 65 and Homestead Road
Bids were opened on September 15th 2022. American Civil Constructors has been awarded the Construction Contract. Construction is expected to start in Late October 2022.
Construction Schedule: Fall 2022 to Fall 2023
Project Cost: $9.1M
Contractor: American Civil Constructors (Awarded 10/4/2022)
Empire Wildlife Crossing
Project plans are under development and advertisement for construction is expected in February 2023.
Estimated Cost: $7M-$10M
Construction duration is expected to last 18 months.
El Rancho West Parking Lot
The location of a new Pegasus shuttle van stop and parking area has been confirmed on the north side of I-70 near the I-70 El Rancho exit (Exit 252). This location allows Pegasus to use the new Express Lane and was preferable to the FLoyd Hill community members.
