I-70 Resurfacing from Chief Hosa to Colfax

About the Project:

Interstate 70 resurfacing project from Chief Hosa to Colfax in Jefferson County. Work also includes bridge repairs at the eastern extent of the project limits, adding safety guardrail, installing dynamic signs and message boards, and adding friction sensors from Genesee to Colfax.


Project Benefits

  • Improve driver safety on a 10-mile stretch of the I-70 mountain corridor
  • Replace deteriorating pavement and guardrail for a safer, smoother driving experience
  • Make structural and deck repairs to a bridge at the eastern end of the project limits which will increase the life of the bridge and improve safety
  • Improve traffic flow by Installing dynamic speed limit and message boards

Work Schedule:

  • Work begins in mid-August and is expected to last until late 2025
  • Work will be performed during daytime and overnight hours Sunday to Friday

Traffic Impacts:

Motorists can expect the following during construction:

  • Overnight single and double lane closures in both directions of I-70 within the project limits
  • Daytime shoulder closures on I-70 within the project limits
  • Traffic shifts and reduced speeds will exist
  • 12-foot width restriction
  • Impacts from I-70 Floyd Hill - Beaver Brook (Exit 248) to Idaho Springs (Exit 241)
