I-25 Ramp Metering in Southeast Colorado

About the Project:

Construction crews will soon be back from winter shutdown to resume work on the widening and installation of ramp metering signals at multiple I-25 on-ramps.

Roughly half of the work was completed during the 2022 construction season.  The North Academy Boulevard southbound and northbound on-ramps were widened and prepped for installation of metering devices.  The remaining work at the North Academy Boulevard ramps, the Northgate Boulevard northbound on-ramp, and the Woodmen Road southbound on-ramp will be installed mid-October.

Project Benefits

  • When complete, the ramp meters will enhance roadway safety and improve I-25 congestion through the spacing and pacing of vehicle entry onto the interstate.
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) will be installed to monitor, trigger, and time vehicle release with automated vehicle and queue detection to mitigate any traffic backups by adjusting meter timing.

Work Schedule

  • Work resumes at the Woodmen Road and North Gate Boulevard on-ramps June 5 and is expected to be completed by mid-October.
  • Work on the North Academy Boulevard ramps is scheduled for completion in June.
  • Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. with occasional Saturday and nighttime work.

Travel Impacts

  • An 11-foot width restriction will be in place on all four ramps for the remainder of construction
