West Side of the Eisenhower Tunnel Projects

I-70 Variable Speed Limit Signs in Dowd Canyon

Location: I-70 from Eagle-Vail to West Vail
Schedule: May 2024 through summer 2025
Traffic Impacts: Eastbound and westbound single lane closures with possible lane shifts and reduced speeds.

I-70 West Vail Pass Auxiliary Lane

Location:I-70 from the East Vail Exit to the Vail Pass Rest Area
Schedule: August 2021 to December 2026
Traffic Impacts: Intermittent weekday traffic holds for rock scaling and avalanche fence installation. Expect single lane closures during both day and night.

Vail Pass Rest Area Reconstruction

Location: I-70 rest area at Vail Pass in Summit County
Schedule: May 2022 to Summer 2025
Traffic Impacts: Rest area and bathrooms are closed at Vail Pass (Exit 190).

East Side of the Eisenhower Tunnel Projects

I-70 Chief Hosa to Morrison Resurfacing

Location: I-70 from Chief Hosa to Morrison
Schedule: July 2024 to Fall 2025
Traffic Impacts: Intermittent single and double-lane closures during the day and night

Huntsman Segment of the Peaks to Plains Trail

Location: Clear Creek Canyon (US 6) from CO 119 to CO 58/CO 93
Schedule: 2024 to late 2026
Traffic Impacts: Daytime single lane closures and occasional overnight full canyon closures for construction of the Huntsman Gulch segment of the Peaks to Plains Trail

I-70 Express Lane

Location: I-70 between Idaho Springs and Empire
Schedule: Open as toll lanes during peak period travel times, mostly on weekends and holidays.
Traffic Impacts: Enter and exit the Express Lanes through the dashed lines only, do not drive in the Express Lanes when they are closed and do not travel in the Express Lanes with an oversized vehicle. When these lanes are closed, they are used as an emergency shoulder for disabled and emergency vehicles.

I-70 Floyd Hill

Location: I-70 from west of Evergreen to eastern Idaho Springs
Schedule: July 2023 to late 2029
Traffic Impacts: I-70 lane and ramp closures, flaggers and alternating traffic on US 40, and 20-minute I-70 traffic holds for rock blasting through the end of 2026. Watch for new traffic patterns, narrowed lanes and shoulders and reduced speed limits. Clear Creek Greenway Trail closure between US 6 and Hidden Valley.
