CO 9: Frisco to Breckenridge
From May 2016 through November 2017, the Iron Springs Alignment project team realigned and widened a 1.3-mile stretch of CO 9, and improved the recreation path south of Frisco.
This project had two phases:
- Phase 1: through November 2016, followed by a winter shutdown
- Phase 2: Work resumed in May 2017 and ran through November 2017.
Project Highlights
- Provided a four-lane reduced section roadway while moving the highway away from Dillon Reservoir
- Shortened CO 9 by approximately 0.4 mile
- Straightened the highway to remove a tight, compound curve (aka, Leslie's Curve), close to Dillon Reservoir
Eliminating this curve reduces accidents, thereby increasing roadway safety, and improves water quality and drinking water protection. - Realigned Blue River Bikeway, moving a portion of the path to the current CO 9 alignment and thus increasing it by 0.4 miles, and smoothing the surface
- Moved the existing Dickey Day Use Parking Lot west to a new location, allowing access via the existing signalized intersection at CO 9 and Recreation Way
A trail connection provides connectivity between the new parking lot and realigned bikeway, as well as lake access.
