I-70 Glenwood Canyon Emergency Project

About the Project:

This is an emergency project resulting from damage caused by the July 29, 2021 material flows in Glenwood Canyon. Work includes but is not limited to parapet and retaining walls repairs and replacement. Guardrail replacement, culvert repairs, and roadway resurfacing; both polyester concrete and hot mix asphalt. Work will also clear the debris on the recreation path and assess the damage.


Traffic Impacts

Xcel Energy and PAR Electric helicopter operations have been completed. This week, Lawrence Construction will begin excavation work at Mile Point 124.5 eastbound, rock screening work at MP 118 westbound and begin drilling anchors for the debris barrier at MP 120.3 westbound.

Work commencing next week is contingent on the weather forecast.

There will be a right lane westbound closure in place between the Blue Gulch area to No Name, MP 119- MP 125. Eastbound will have a left lane closure from MP 123.5 - MP 124.5.

Anticipated Traffic Impacts

  • A westbound lane closure will be in place from MP 119 to MP 125.
  • An eastbound lane closure will be in place from MP 123.5 to MP 124.5.
