I-70 Glenwood Canyon 2021 Emergency Repairs

Work this Week

Dec. 6, 2021
  • Work on the eastbound lanes of the interstate at mile point 123.5/Blue Gulch continues with the concrete box culvert repairs continuing. The team will then move to paving the roadway as well as concrete work on the barriers and guardrail installation.
  • The CDOT Geohazard team is working concurrently with the emergency project in the canyon. Next week on Tuesday, Dec. 7, Wednesday, Dec. 8 and Thursday, Dec. 9 safety critical rock scaling operations will be taking place to remove debris and repair damage to eight existing rockfall fences on the north slope in Glenwood Canyon.
  • While rocks are being scaled, traffic stops on I-70 will be required for westbound traffic only. Traffic holds for eastbound traffic will be intermittent for safety critical operations, but could expand if necessary. These holds are expected to last 20-30 minutes, depending on the work taking place, before traffic is released. The hours of operation will be 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and crews will be monitoring traffic impacts. This work is contingent on the weather forecast. Motorists should expect delays due to traffic volumes.
  • Currently there are no overnight closures anticipated on the project for the end of this week, over the weekend or next week.
  • Debris removal of the Concrete Box Culvert (CBC) at MP 124.5/Wagon Gulch location continues.
  • Motorists planning to travel on I-70 in Glenwood Canyon should pay attention to road conditions on cotrip.org and weather forecasts. Rest area and recreation path information is also available at cotrip.org. I-70 safety closure information can be found on CDOT’s website by clicking here.

Anticipated Traffic Impacts

  • An extended eastbound single lane closure remains in place at MP 123.5. There is a 12’-6” width restriction in place for commercial vehicles through Glenwood Canyon.
