Benefits: Replaces a poor bridge to improve access and safety in a congested corridor.

The old Pecos Street bridge structure over Interstate 70 was replaced using a technique that rolled in a new bridge constructed off site. The bridge replacement occurred over the July 20 through 22, 2013, weekend and the new bridge was safely set in place in time for I-70’s Monday morning rush hour to pass beneath. In addition to replacing the Pecos Street structure, CDOT installed roundabout type intersections, a pedestrian bridge spanning I-70, and a new pedestrian walk signal.

FASTER Project Award: $8.3 million (100% of project budget)
Benefits: Replaces obsolete bridges to increase safety.

This project replaced three bridges near the town of Rocky Ford.  Replacement bridges were built next to the old bridges, and then were laterally slid or rolled into place.  This project was the first in the state to use this innovative and time-saving bridge technique, which also minimized disruption to the traveling public.

FASTER Project Award: $56M for 3 SBE bridges on the project (46% of project budget)
Benefits: Replaces poor-rated bridges to increase safety.

This project will improve the traffic flow and increase the safety on US 6 through Denver, one of the region’s busiest highways.  All of the bridges along this stretch are more than 50 years old and no longer meet federal standards.  Of the six bridges being replaced, three are rated as poor and have received Colorado Bridge Enterprise funds.
