CO 3 at Ewing Mesa Road Intersection Improvements
About the Project
This is a multi-agency project that includes the Colorado of Department of Transportation, City of Durango and Durango Mesa Foundation.
The project consists of building a new intersection at Colorado Highway 3 and Ewing Mesa Road. It also includes reconstruction of Ewing Mesa Road for approximately one mile into Durango Mesa Park along with water line connections from the Horse Gulch area.

Project Benefits

Work Schedule
- Working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday with possible weekend work
- Preliminary work is scheduled to begin Monday, March 17 and will go through the end of November

Traffic Impacts
Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:
- One land and shoulder closures
- One-lane closure on E. 3rd Street
- One lane will remain open to local traffic and access to the Horse Gulch Medical Center parking lot and E. 3rd Street apartments and businesses
- Full closure of the Horse Gulch UPPER parking lot
- Outdoor enthusiasts are asked to use surrounding neighborhood streets for parking and access the trailhead from the north (E. 9th Avenue)
- Please do not ride bicycles through the construction zone
- Alternative access to Horse Gulch via ped or bike please use Goeglein Gulch to Talker to Powerline
- Full closure of Ewing Mesa Road
- Shoulder closures, lane closures and lane shifts on CO 3 and E. 8th Avenue
- Flaggers at Sawmill Road and the CO 3 intersection
