CO 14 Cameron Pass Resurfacing

About the Project:

The Colorado Department of Transportation and Oldcastle SW Group, Inc. began the improvement project in Larimer County on Colorado Highway 14, over Cameron Pass in late May. The anticipated completion date is November 2024.

Resurfacing work began on CO 14, over Cameron Pass, east of Gould at Mile Point 65 and concludes at MP 76, near Kinikinik, in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest. The existing asphalt will be milled and filled with three inches of new hot mix asphalt. Within these mile points, three bridge structures will be repaired.

While working on the project, a safety rail will be installed on an existing box culvert at MP 86, just west of Idylwilde. These barriers are designed to redirect or contain vehicles that veer off the road, reducing the severity of crashes and preventing vehicles from leaving the roadway entirely.

In the fall, centerline rumble strip installation will begin at MP 102, west of Eggers.

Project Benefits

  • Roadway resurfacing provides a safer and smoother surface for motorists.
  • Guardrails will be replaced along the project limits which will prevent vehicles from leaving the roadway and may prevent far more serious crashes.
  • Centerline rumble strips will be installed to alert drivers when they are unintentionally drifting out of their lane. These strips help prevent head-on collisions, sideswipes, and other accidents caused by drifting into opposing traffic or off the road.

Work Schedule:

  • Work hours are Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Traffic Impacts:

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

  • Motorcyclists should use extreme caution throughout the work zone due to loose gravel and uneven lanes.
  • Flaggers will be in place to guide traffic through the alternating lane closure during work hours.
  • During construction of the structures from MP 65 to MP 76, there will be alternating travel through the construction zone with pilot cars and flaggers in place.
  • During non-working hours, alternating travel will continue with temporary traffic signals in place to guide traffic.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 35 MPH through where there is alternating travel. It will be 40 MPH through the remainder of the construction zone.
  • There will be a wide load restriction of 12 feet during working hours.
