CO 133 Rockfall Mitigation in Gunnison County

About the Project:

This is a rockfall mitigation project located near the Paonia Reservoir
on Colorado Highway 133 between Paonia and Carbondale in Gunnison County.

The rockfall mitigation work will include adding rock bolting (soil nail walls),
mesh, rock scaling and ditch cleaning in four locations between
Mile Points 24 to 31 near the Paonia Reservoir.


Project Benefits

The project will:

  • Decrease the potential of rockfall hazard for traveling motorists, improving travel safety on the highway
  • Protect highway infrastructure from damage by lowering the amount of debris reaching the highway

Work Schedule:

  • Normal working hours will be Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Traffic Impacts:

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

  • Motorists will encounter alternating lane closures and delays up to 15 minutes can be expected during working hours on CO 133, between Carbondale and Paonia near the Paonia Reservoir. (Mile Points 24 to 31)
  • The speed limit will be reduced through the work zone
