Existing Traffic Incident Data:

  • The northbound and southbound intersections experienced a higher-than-expected frequency of severe crashes
  • Fatal broadside crash at northbound CO 119/northbound 55th Street.

Benefits of Proposed Improvements:

  • Removes the broadside movement which has a high potential for severe crashes
  • Extending acceleration and deceleration lanes on CO 119 to meet State Highway Access code criteria improves safety
  • One-Way at-grade crossing with proposed bike path improving safety for bicycle and pedestrian traffic
  • Based on community feedback, the median will be open in a one-way configuration for northbound CO 119 traffic to access the neighborhood to the North of CO 119. This would limit out of direction travel for residents.
  • The existing data did not indicate any crashes with the specific movement that will remain with this proposed layout
