Monarch Road
Existing Traffic Incident Data:
- Southbound at Monarch - 15 of the 23 broadside crashes resulted in injury. The frequency of broadside crashes is much higher than expected when compared to similar facilities statewide.
- Northbound at Monarch - broadside crashes involved eastbound vehicles crossing northbound CO 119 (two of three) or turning left onto northbound CO 119 (one of three).
Benefits of Proposed Improvements:
- Converting to right-in/right-out access removes the broadside movement which has a high potential for severe crashes
- Extending acceleration and deceleration lanes on CO 119 to meet State Highway Access code criteria improves safety
- Removes at-grade crossing with proposed bike path improving safety for bicycle and pedestrian traffic
- Converting Monarch to right-in, right-out will re-route existing through traffic to Niwot Road to the north (0.65 miles), and CO 52 to the south (0.45 miles). The close proximity of these adjacent signalized intersections limits the out of direction travel.
