Construction Phasing

This project is split into several phases and work areas. Work began in the northern three miles of the work zone (MP 35.5 – MP 39.0) first. In Spring 2023, work started south of MP 35.5 in the asphalt resurfacing section. As of summer 2023, construction is underway along the entire work zone.

Work planned at the north end of the project from MP 35.5 to 39:
  • Reconstruct Rock Creek Bridge (widen to 4 lanes with median and shoulders) 
  • Reconstruct highway or overlay with concrete pavement   
  • Add new passing lanes (both directions MP 37.0 - 39.0)
  • Add northbound left turn lane at Old Canyon City Rd   
  • Add southbound right turn/deceleration lane at Calle de Fuente & Roca Roja Circle
  • Make bridge repairs
  • Extend culverts
  • Replace guardrail

Work planned at the south end of the project from MP 27.7 to 35.5:

  • Resurface highway with asphalt
  • Add new passing lanes (MP 27.7 - 29.00)
  • Add southbound right turn lanes at Paseo Corto, Rancho Pavo Dr and Tierra Rojo Dr
  • Make bridge repairs
  • Extend culverts
  • Replace guardrail
