Baptist Road & Terrazzo Drive Roundabout in Monument
Work Update and Traffic Impacts Phase I -Beginning June 24
Updated phasing plans have been approved and the project will resume at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening. At this time, the detour will be set up and eastbound Baptist Road will be closed from the Woodcarver Roundabout to Terrazzo Drive. During the setup process there will be minor shifts to the north and south side of Baptist Road to enable the installation of phase one striping. This work will take most of the night to set up. Regular work hours will commence on Wednesday morning at 7 a.m., which will include the new traffic pattern and detours.
About the Project:
This is a roadway improvement project which includes the construction of a roundabout configuration at the intersection of West Baptist Road and Terrazzo Drive in Monument, Colorado. The intersection is just west of the Interstate 25 interchange and east of an existing roundabout along W. Baptist Road and Wood Carver Road (south leg) and Old Denver Road (north leg). The project limits include approximately 0.25 miles of West Baptist Road and 0.15 miles of Terrazzo Drive
The roundabout will include concrete sidewalk and median construction as well as various drainage improvements adjacent to the intersection. Additionally, the project also includes clearing and grubbing, removals, utility relocation, striping, signing and erosion control
Roundabouts greatly reduce the amount of time needed to get through an intersection. They improve traffic flow by allowing vehicles to continue to move without stopping through an intersection, or at least with fewer stops.
Roundabouts increase safety and reduce incidences of crashes by preventing left turns across oncoming traffic. When crashes do occur they are typically less severe than traditional intersections.

Work Schedule:
- Project completion is expected at the end of October.
- Work will occur during daytime hours - 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. - Monday through Friday.
Traffic Control for Phase 1
The first phase of the project will focus on the northwest and southeast corners of the intersection and should be complete by mid August.
Eastbound Travel:
- Eastbound Baptist Road will be closed from the Woodcarver Road Roundabout intersection with Old Denver Rd. to the intersection with Terrazzo Dr.
- Traffic wishing to go east on Baptist Rd. coming from west of the Woodcarver Roundabout or from Old Denver Rd. will be detoured through the existing roundabout, south on Woodcarver to Squadron Dr., east on Squadron Dr. to Terrazzo Dr., then north on Terrazzo Dr. to turn right only on Baptist Rd.
- Vehicles leaving QuikTrip and Pilot Travel Center will exit as usual to travel back to I-25.
- Vehicles leaving Valero will need to proceed west on Baptist Road and follow the eastbound detour going through the Woodcarver Roundabout.
Westbound Travel
- No left turns will be allowed on westbound Baptist Rd at Terrazzo Drive.
- Traffic wishing to access southbound Terrazzo Drive, where Quik Trip and Pilot Travel Center are located, will be detoured west on Baptist Road to the Woodcarver Roundabout, south on Woodcarver to Squadron Dr., east on Squadron Dr. to Terrazzo Drive.
- Traffic wishing to travel westbound on Baptist Road from QuickTrip & Pilot Travel Center will need to follow the detour route from Terrazzo Dr. to Squadron Dr. to the Woodcarver Roundabout in order to go west on Baptist Drive.
Traffic Impacts:
- Detour Routes will be clearly marked. Reduced speeds and extra caution when traveling through the work zone is greatly appreciated for the safety of everyone.
- During all phases of this project, access to businesses along Baptist Road and Terrazzo Drive will remain open. Adequate space for commercial truck traffic that is common at this intersection will be provided and lanes will be clearly marked.
- Normal working hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on construction occurring at Baptist Road and Terrazzo Drive in all directions.
