US 85 - Brighton to Fort Lupton

Project completed

Overview

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is nearing completion on construction of a 4.6-mile segment of northbound US 85 between Brighton and Ft. Lupton in Weld County. Once complete, the new surface will improve the safety and traffic flow through the corridor to meet existing and future travel demands. The project is expected to be complete by the end of October 2015.

Schedule and Traffic Impacts

Normal working hours are from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  No weekend work is expected.

Currently, the project is 85 percent complete, and the intersection at County Road (CR) is now open. A primary feature of this project is the full reconstruction of the intersection of US 85 at CR 6. This feature included asphalt and concrete paving, as well as guardrail installation.

24-hour closures of the southbound left turn lane at CR 6 can be expected Thursday, October 1, through Friday, October 2, for final paving operations.

24-hour closures of the left lane and left shoulder are in place at US 85 and Highway 52 for median replacement.

Various lane closures can be expected on US 85 from CR 6 to CR 14 ½ through October 2015. Motorists should plan for delays of up to 10 minutes. There is a 12-foot vehicle width restriction through the work zone.

The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph for both the safety of the traveling public as well as construction crews working along the highway. Fines will be doubled for speed violations through the construction zone.

Please use caution and stay alert while traveling through the construction zone. Follow flaggers’ directions and reduced posted speed limits.
