US 550 Ouray to Colona Resurfacing

Project completed

About the Project

The project took place on US 550 for 22 miles from Mile Point 93.8, north of Ouray, to MP 115.6, just south of Colona.

Work included asphalt paving, shoulder widening at three locations, bridge maintenance on three structures, installing new guardrail, new pavement markings and signing. An additional work zone is located south of Ouray at Bear Creek tunnel (MP 90 to 91) where crews replaced concrete panel approaches at each end of the tunnel.

Project Benefits:

The new road surface will add approximately 10 years of life to the highway, provide a smoother road surface and will eliminate ruts and road damage. This will allow for an improved smoother and safer drive for motorists. The new guardrail will be 31” high instead of 27” high to help veering vehicles remain on the road more effectively, making the highway safer for the traveling public.
