About the Project
The Colorado Department of Transportation in collaboration with Morton Electric, has successfully completed the intersection improvements project. The project in Pueblo included work at two intersections, US Highway 50 Business and CO Highway 231 (36th Lane) and US 50 and CO 231 (36th Lane).
Intersection improvements will enhance safety by increasing sight distance to facilitate secure motorist crossing of US 50 and CO 231(36th Lane) and to improve overall pedestrian and motorist safety near schools along US 50 Business and CO 231 (36th Lane).

The following safety improvements were made at US 50 Business and CO 231 (36th Lane):
- The stop line of CO 231 (36th Lane) at US 50 Business was moved to reduce the crossing distance for northbound and southbound left turning vehicles.
- Raised islands were installed with pedestrian refuge improving sight distance when crossing the intersection.

Safety improvements that were made at US 50 and CO 231 (36th Lane) include:
- The right thru lane of US 50 eastbound was converted into a right turn only lane ½ mile in advance of the intersection with 36th Lane.
- The stop line of CO 231 (36th Lane) at US 50 was moved so the right turn lane will not impact the view of motorists trying to cross the intersection thereby reducing the crossing distance for northbound left-turning vehicles.
- Raised islands were installed to allow the stop line to be moved up, improving sight distance when crossing the intersection.
- A conflict warning system was installed which will recognize approaching traffic and illuminate the warning signs to alert motorists of approaching vehicles to the intersection.
- The installation of overhead signs will assist motorists with wayfinding.
