US 287 Surface Improvement Project
Project Complete
About the Project
Baca County – The Colorado Department of Transportation, in collaboration with Castle Rock Construction, has completed the US 287 Surface Improvement Project between the Oklahoma state line and Springfield, enhancing safety and mobility for motorists.
Work consisted of removing and replacing concrete pavement in segments. The subgrade was prepared to ensure the road can support heavy traffic. After the base course prep work was completed, the concrete panels were replaced.
Additional safety measures included new striping for better lane recognition. Rumble strips also have been added to the shoulders, which is an effective strategy to decrease crashes due to vehicles leaving the roadway.
Project Benefits
- The 30-mile project will consist of replacing and removing concrete panels for a smoother roadway
