Project Completed
About the Project:
This is a resurfacing project located in Las Animas and Baca Counties on US 160 between Kim and Pritchett. (Mile Points 423 to 451)
Work will include the resurfacing of existing pavement, updating sign panels, installation of new signs to meet safety standards, and widening of a portion of the curve shoulder. In addition, one paved shoulder widening area will be added.
This project is anticipated to begin in early April 2024 and is expected to be complete by September 2024.
Project Benefits
- Resurfacing can greatly extend the life of the asphalt pavement. Some highways may last more than 50 years with periodic resurfacing of the top layer of asphalt and timely repairs.
- A smooth highway has many important benefits including safety and improved quality of the driving experience.
- Construction of wider shoulders improves safety by providing a larger recoverable area on the side of the roadway and reduces the potential of crashes from vehicles veering off the main roadway.
Work Schedule:
- Work will occur during daytime hours - 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. - Monday through Friday.
Project will begin April 15 and is scheduled for completion in September 2024.
Traffic Impacts:
Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:
- Alternating, single lane closures will take place in the work zone
- Delays of up to 10 minutes can be expected during working hours
