About the Project

From April through October 2019, crews on this project will resurface an approximate 21-mile portion of US Highway 491, and more than three miles of Colorado Highway 184 in Southwest Colorado.

In addition to this resurfacing work—which will add about 10 years of life to each road, and eliminate ruts and other damage—improvements include:

  • installing an advanced warning sign system at US 491 and Montezuma County Road;
  • adding new striping;
  • widening the highway;
  • adding gravel to shoulders; and
  • adjusting guardrail on CO 184.

Schedule & Travel Impacts

  • Working hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Expect alternating one-lane roads in both directions with flaggers directing traffic.
  • Expect 15-minute delays.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph.
