US 34 Fort Morgan Repaving and Signal Upgrade

From September through December 2017, crews updated the traffic signal at US 34 and Barlow Road to improve traffic flow.
Construction and upgrades included:
- radius improvements to all four quadrants of the US 34/Barlow Road intersection, which will improve truck turning movements;
- roadway widening;
- milling and overlay of existing asphalt pavement along US 34 from Colorado Highway 52 (Main Street) to Industry Drive;
- updated pavement striping
- grading;
- new pavement construction;
- pavement rehabilitation;
- traffic signal installation; and
- storm sewer modification and installation.
This will better accommodate an additional turn lane in the southeast quadrant, new lane configurations and the replacement of traffic signal equipment.
Project Phases
The major phases of the project included the following:
- September: Roadway milling and temporary striping
- October: Mainline paving, full reconstruction of Barlow Road, and widening of the northwest and northeast quadrants
- November: Widening of the southeast and southwest quadrants, and paving and reconstruction of the acceleration lane
- December: Installation of new traffic signals
