Project Facts
  • Cost: $1.5 to $2 million
  • Contractor: Wildcat Construction
  • Timeline: Aug. 10 - Sept. 15, 2018
  • Location: US 24 at Ruxton Avenue (about mile point 2.75) in Manitou Springs

Project Overview

From Aug. 10 through Sept. 15, 2018, crews replaced a box culvert beneath US Highway 24 (Manitou Avenue) at Ruxton Avenue. This emergency work was necessary due to damage caused by mid-July storms.

Work included demolishing the existing structure and replacing it with a 60-foot-long box culvert. Maintenance crews and local law enforcement monitored the site to ensure travelers' safety.

Project Background

In mid-July 2018, storms damaged the west wall of the structure under Manitou Avenue, immediately west of the Ruxton Avenue roundabout. This required a full closure of Manitou Avenue between Ruxton and Park avenues. Pedestrians maintained access as sidewalks through this area were not impacted.
