CO 93 South of Boulder
Project Background
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is partnering with Boulder County and the city of Boulder to improve safety for pedestrians, equestrians, and cyclists crossing State Highway CO 93 south of Boulder. The project will add shoulders to CO 93 and build an underpass for the Community Ditch Trail underneath the highway.
Project Benefits
The project will create more room between motorists and cyclists riding along the highway, will reduce the potential for collisions by providing an underpass for the safety of trail users, and will create a smoother highway surface for all who travel on SH 93.
Project Description
Crews will be adding six foot shoulders to State Highway 93 between SH 170 (El Dorado Springs Road) and SH 128 south of Boulder. Additionally, asphalt roadway surfaces will be replaced throughout the project, and a pedestrian underpass will be built north of the Community Ditch Trail.
The project is contracted to Hamon Contractors for $4.6 million. The city of Boulder has contributed $1.1 million for the project, and the remaining balance will be split between CDOT and Boulder County.
Project Schedule and Impacts
Work on the project will take place during the day, Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Motorists can expect reduced speed limits, lane closures, and delays of 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Crews began mobilizing for the project in July 2013. The project is expected to be complete in mid 2015 with a winter shutdown the end of November 2014.
