CO 13 near Meeker in Rio Blanco County
Project Background
In November 2012, CDOT began a new reconstruction project on State Highway (SH) 13 north of 14 Mile Creek in Rio Blanco County. The new project is adjacent to where a previous project recently completed. It is scheduled for completion in October 2013.
Crews will be reconstructing the highway approximately 20 miles north of Rifle, which will involve widening the highway, replacing culverts, improving sight distance, implementing erosion control measures, and widening shoulders. To better prepare for work to take place in spring 2013, crews began removing and installing new fencing along the highway as weather permits in early November 2012. This section of highway is part of the 52% of our state highway infrastructure that is in poor condition, necessitating reconstruction.
The $6.7 million project contracted through Old Castle United Companies is scheduled for completion by November 2013. The project is funded through FASTER (Funding Advancements for Surface Transportation and Economic Recovery) legislation, which is dedicated to projects that will improve safety or replace structurally deficient bridges. This additional transportation funding allows us to better maintain our existing roads and avoid even bigger, costlier repairs in the future.
CDOT recently completed work on SH 13 project near Meeker in Rio Blanco County, which reconstructed 1.95 miles of the highway from mile marker (MM) 25 to MM 27. The project increased visibility, widened shoulders, added guardrails, and added new drainage pipes to this section of roadway.
