ITS Road Side Connected Vehicles Installation - Statewide
About the Project:
The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin ITS installation of connected roadside units August 15. Work will take place on miscellaneous highways throughout the state. Interface Communications has been selected by CDOT for the project.
The project will install connected vehicle roadside units on existing ITS device poles along 450+ miles of highway. There will be an initial test phase that will include 8 locations on NB and SB I-25 from Castle Rock to Centennial, and I-76 and Federal Blvd.
The installation of the ITS connected vehicle roadside units will benefit the traveling public by implementing technology to better communicate, decrease travel time and create a safer driving environment. The connected vehicles technology enables cars, buses, trucks and our smartphones to “talk” to one another. This technology has the potential to prevent or reduce the impact of accidents each year. The project was postponed due to other nearby projects needed to finish their tasks first.
