I-70 Reconstruction Seibert to Stratton

Project complete

Project Overview

In July 2016, CDOT completed work on a four-mile stretch of Interstate 70 between Seibert and Stratton. The project included concrete overlay as well as shoulder and guardrail improvements in both directions of I-70, between mile points (MPs) 410.9 and 406.9.

Project Facts

  • Cost:
    $30.8 million

Project Team

  • Contractor(s): Castle Rock Construction Company of Colorado

This work came as an extension of highway repairs, which took place between MPs 410.8 and 418.3 from March to November 2015.

Project Benefits

Much of the work of this project consisted of removing old deteriorated pavement and overlays and replacing this surface with longer-lasting concrete. This concrete will provide an increased longevity to the roadway surface and decrease the frequency of reparative overlays required on damaged parts of the highway.

Other work included repair work on four bridges, as well as shoulder upgrades, and guardrail removal and improvement, intended to provide greater safety to travelers on the interstate.

Significant project milestones:

  • 510,000 square yards of concrete/asphalt was removed and recycled/reused as either road base or concrete aggregate.
  • One-hundred percent of the projects dirt work is complete. An estimated 35,000 cubic yards of embankment has been placed.
  • Ten miles of shoulder, along with guardrails in each direction, were upgraded to improve safety for motorists through the corridor.
