The I-70B Widening Project is a major road improvement project taking place between the Mesa Mall (24 Road) and the Mesa Court Shopping Center (24 ¾ Road). The project started on July 12, 2010. The project was in a winter shutdown from November 17, 2010 to February 8, 2011. Work resumed on February 9, 2011. Work along the side of the road (sidewalk, landscaping) will be completed early July of 2011.

The project will provide added safety to both vehicles and pedestrians along this busy section of road. It will do so by reducing congestion, adding sidewalks and improving the streetscape. Improvements will include two additional driving lanes, a new storm sewer system, new concrete driving surface, updated signal system, lighting, curb, gutter and sidewalk, landscaping, signing and striping. Be prepared to experience the following conditions:
- Four lanes of traffic will remain open on I-70 B during construction hours. This will be done by shifting traffic to either side of the pavement as construction progresses;
- The Speed Limit through the project area is temporarily reduced to 35 mph;
- Short traffic stops may occur and will be kept to a minimum ;
- Access will be maintained to businesses in the project work area - some accesses will be altered at times to facilitate construction activities;
- The three entrances to the Mesa Mall off of I70B will be closed at separate times during construction - two entrances will be open at all times;
- The traffic lanes on I-70B are open and fully functional. Additional work outside of the travel lanes will be concluded in 2011.
